Entrepreneurship & Small Business

We understand the unique needs of small businesses and know that time is money. Receiving the right information at the right time is critical to sustaining and growing your business.

Our office is your first stop for business assistance and an on-going resource as your business grows. Our professional staff will meet with you to discuss permitting, licensing and regulatory issues. We'll provide initial counseling on the following issues: building or land listings, sources of capital, developing a business plan, marketing strategies, forms of business organization, government procurement and other vital topics.

There are other resources available that will help you guide your startup efforts.  The University of Houston Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce are conveniently located to provide face-to-face support for businesses.  These offices provide more in-depth counseling and strategic guidance as you begin to develop your business plan and seek funding for your new business.

The Comptroller is the chief steward of the state’s finances, acting as tax collector, chief accountant, chief revenue estimator and chief treasurer for all of state government.  This office is important for you to know as a business in order to register for sales tax certificates, file franchise and other taxes, and remain in good standing to be able to conduct business in Texas.
