Sugar Land is now home to more than 80,000 people.  And now, it's home to the Atlantic League Champion Skeeters.  While the team developed a fan following the past five years an economic boom has also followed.

  • Sugar Land's Nalco Champion Receives Distinguished Pinnacle Award for Safety

    The Union Pacific Railroad Pinnacle Award recognizes 65 companies with its distinguished Pinnacle Award for their commitment to the safe transportation of chemical products. The annual award honors Union Pacific customers for implementing release prevention, corrective plans and having zero non-accident releases (NARs) of regulated hazardous materials shipments.
    The Nalco Champion Sugar Land plant was awarded this distinguished honor for exhibiting safe loading practices with zero non-accident releases for 2015. In 2015 the plant scheduled 140 rail cars that transported approximately 11.2 million Kgs (80K per rail car) of every finished product.     

  • Schlumberger to Consolidate National Headquarters to Sugar Land

    Sugar Land, TX ­– Schlumberger has announced plans to consolidate the company’s U.S. headquarters to the City of Sugar Land as part of its long-term resource management and consolidation strategy.    
    As part of this headquarters-consolidation project, the Fortune Global 500 company will reposition more than 500 jobs to its Sugar Land campus.  The company will also be investing more than $200 million in capital improvements at its existing 200-acre Sugar Land campus along US Highway 90A to accommodate the move.

    Sugar Land, TX – The Sugar Land Development Corporation recently approved an agreement for the relocation of First Data Corporation’s TeleCheck Services division, a project that will bring $10 million in investment and add 600 new jobs during a 10 year period. 

     

  • University of Houston receives $54 million in construction bonds to expand Sugar Land campus

    State leaders have paved the way for new construction at UH Sugar Land (UHSL), a campus of the University of Houston. UHSL received a $54 million allocation in HB100, which the governor recently signed, to construct a new 150,000-sq.-ft. classroom building.

    “If UH is going to continue to meet the higher education needs of the Houston area, we need to be building where people live,” said Provost Paula Myrick Short, UH senior vice president for academic affairs. “There is tremendous growth in Fort Bend County. We are grateful for the incredible support of the legislature, which will help further develop this campus and expand higher education opportunities in the region.”

    The new building, planned to be completed in 2019, will primarily house programs offered by the UH College of Technology. A portion of the college will relocate to Sugar Land, and additional programs in business, education and health-related fields are also expected in the next two to five years
