2014 Retail Study

The City of Sugar Land is updating its retail strategy, which provides a snapshot of Sugar Land’s demographic and consumer spending habits. The last study performed in 2010, identified target retailers for the City to focus its marketing efforts. The recruitment of Costco is an example outcome of this study.

2014 Sugar Land Retail Analysis

Preliminary findings of the current retail study indicate that Sugar Land continues to be a diverse and dynamic market - both in terms of income and socioeconomic characteristics. Population of Sugar Land has increased over 7.7% from 2010 to 2013.. The population of Sugar Land is expected to grow 7.3% in 2014-2015. Median household income has also increased from $93,024 to $110,188 (ESRI). While this may appear to be incremental, this increase elevates purchasing power of Sugar Land’s residents from $7.3B to $8.6B, a net gain of over $1.3B over a four year span.
