Sugar Land in known throughout the region for high-end retail developments. The City’s commercial developments are bustling with activity and are an important source of economic fuel for the area. The City’s remarkable demographics have attracted over 6 million square feet of retail with more exciting projects on the horizon. In parallel to other sectors, retail continues to grow and prosper. In 2007 the City collected sales tax on over $1.8 billion in sales, a 70% increase from 2000.

Sugar Land Town Square is a 32 acre mixed-use development located at the intersection of U.S. 59 and Highway 6. The development includes over 200,000 square feet of upscale retail and restaurants, a 300-room full-service Marriott hotel and conference center, a new 82,000 square-foot City Hall for Sugar Land, 167 mid-rise residential condos, Class A office space, and a 1.4-acre pedestrian plaza. Retail and restaurant tenants include Z Gallerie, Bombay, Ann Taylor Loft, JoAnn’s, JoS. A. Banks, Perry’s Steakhouse, and Japeneiro’s Sushi Bistro & Latin Grille.

First Colony Mall was opened in 1996 and features over 1 million square feet of retail space anchored by Dillards, Macy’s, and JC Penney. A 2006 expansion added an outdoor plaza with a beautifully landscaped courtyard. Exciting retailers located in the mall include Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, White House/Black Market, The Cheesecake Factory, and Pottery Barn.

Lake Pointe Town Cente is a 186 acre mixed-use development featuring residential, medical, office, and 225,000 square feet of high-end retail and restaurants known as Lake Pointe Village. The project is located directly across from Sugar Land Town Square at the crossroads of Highway 6 and US 59. Whole Foods recently opened its first Fort Bend County location in Lake Pointe Village, occupying 55,000 square feet in Lake Pointe Village.
